HO’OPONOPONO: Did Dr. Hew Len really used a mantra with 4-phrases to heal his criminal and mentally ill patients at Hawaii State Hospital in the 1980s?

Note by the author: I’m not very proficient in my English, my mother tongue is German. It was not easy for me to write this article. Nevertheless, I would like to publish this article on my blog, because so many other blogs, articles, videos on the Internet around the world, reports about the story of the psychologist Dr. Hew Len, that he had healed his criminal and mentaly ill patients with a mantra with 4-phrases „i’m sorry, please forgive me, i love you, thank you.“ (and the story about 100% responsibility) (see bellow). This story is a fake, in this way, which was told by Dr. Hew Len and his followers.

It is important that all people get correct information about Morrnah Simeona, her teachings and about Morrnah’s 14-step ho’oponopono (or 12 steps – it depends on how you count the steps. According to Michael Micklei, 14 steps if you count step 6a / b, 6c and 6d as 3 steps by older Versions of Morrnah’s Ho’oponopono process).

The success is due to Morrnah Simoena and to the 14-step ho’oponopono-process, which was developed by Morrnah Simeona, that in Hawaii State Hospital many criminal and ill patients were healed so far, that they could be released, according to Michael Micklei (Pacifica Seminars in Germany). Of course, the success is also due to Dr. Hew Len, that he doing this job at Hawaii State Hospital from 1984 to 1987, after he was detailed instructed by Morrnah Simeona. Morrnah Simeona initiated this experiment to substantiate the effectiveness of her 14-step ho’oponopono-process. It was a full success.

But almost nobody talks about Morrnah’s Ho’oponopono and about Morrnah’s success today. The original ho’oponopono-process, it was developed by Morrnah Simeona, goes into the background. It is even forgotten today by the people. Of all the other ho’oponopono-processes, which are developed by Morrnah, is no longer spoken today.

In several books, articles, blogs, videos in the internet are things spread and called „ho’oponopono“ (for example: the mantra „please forgive me, i’m sorry, i love you, thank you“), which have nothing to do with ho’oponopono. Morrnah Simeona never taught a mantra or „100% responsibility“ or about a „zero state“. What is the cause, that so many people are spread things and call „ho’oponopono“ which have nothing to do with ho’oponopono? An answer may be found in this blog post.

The purpose of this blog post is to inform the people. Then, everyone can decide for themselves, if want to learn authentic ho’oponopono or something else.

The famous story of Dr. Hew Len

This story goes around the world. Numerous blogs, websites, books tell about it. The story about the psychologist Dr. Hew Len and the healings of his criminal and mentally ill patients by a mantra with 4-phrases (I’m sorry, please forgive me, i love you, thank you.) at Hawaii State Hospital (and the story about 100% responsibility). This story told Dr. Hew Len in many seminars, interviews and videos today.
The book „Zero Limits“, this was written by the author Joe Vitale, helped to spread this story worldwide within a short time. According to various articles in the internet, this mantra was developed by Morrnah Simeona in collaboration with Dr. Hew Len. Is this story true as it was from Dr. Hew Len told? Did Dr. Hew Len really practiced a mantra with 4-phrases to heal his patients in Hawaii State Hospital?

Many people spread this story on websites, blogs, in books, seminars without questioning them.

Dr. Hew Len heads the Foundation of „I“ today. This foundation was founded by Morrnah Simeona.

Modern ho’oponopono and Morrnah Simeona

Morrnah Simeona (1913-1992) was an indigenous hawaiian healer (a kahuna lapa’au). She updated the traditional ho’oponopono-process, of ancient Hawaiians, to today’s times and realities and made it available to all interested around the world. Her ho’oponopono is a process with 14-steps (or 12 steps – it depends on how you count the steps. According to Michael Micklei, 14 steps if you count step 6a / b, 6c and 6d as 3 steps by older Versions of Morrnah’s Ho’oponopono process):

  • Morrnah’s ho’oponopono can be performed without the presence of a kahuna or a therapist. The process can be performed alone.
  • You do not have to know the causes of your problems.
  • According to Morrnah Simeona, there is a divine creator in the universe and we were all created by Him. We are part of His creation. The Divine Creator is included in Morrnah’s ho’oponopono. Morrnah’s ho’oponopono is a process that transforms problems and imbalances and restores peace and balance. Only the divinity can transmute problems and imbalances. Peace, harmony, balance are thereby restored.
  • Everyjone can be learn and use Morrnah’s ho’oponopono. It does not matter which culture, religion or belief you belong to.
  • There is no physical presence required of the participants of a problem.
  • You can solve all your problems with Morrnah’s ho’oponopono. It does not matter what kind of problems it is.

The 14-step ho’oponopono-process, that was developed by Morrnah Simeona, is officially recognized in Hawaii. After Morrnah Simeona many years worked (more than 19 years, according to Pacifica Seminars Germany), to complete the final version of her 14-step ho’oponopono-process, she completed the final version of it in 1991. Prior to the final version, there were so-called „revised editions“ of her 14-step ho’oponopono-process, which emerged in the 1970s and 1980s.

Morrnah Simeona founded Pacifica Seminars in the 1970s in Hawaii and in 1980 the Foundation of „I“. She founded the Pacifica Seminars in Germany in 1990 to teach and spread her 14-step ho’oponopono-process. Pacifica Seminars in Germany is today the only organization in Europe that teach and spread the original and final 14-step ho’oponopono-process, that was developed by Morrnah Simeona, through seminars and with a home course. Morrnah Simeona spent her last year in Germany and lived in Michael Micklei and Yvette Mauri’s home, until she died in 1992.

A contemporary witness reports

Michael Micklei is an important contemporary witness today. He teaches and spread the 14-step ho’oponopono process of Morrnah Simeona since more than 30 years with his wife Yvette Mauri after being trained by Morrnah Simeona. He accompanied Morrnah Simeona on her travels and worked closely with Morrnah for 5 years. He gave with Dr. Hew Len and Morrnah Simeona together ho’oponopono seminars. He knew Dr. Hew Len already during the time as Dr. Hew Len worked at the Hawaii State Hospital in the 1980s.

However, Michael Micklei reports, that Dr. Hew Len used ho’oponopono at Hawaii State Hospital from 1984 to 1987, but never a mantra with 4-phrases („I’m sorry, please forgive me, I love you, thank you.“). Dr. Hew Len used Morrnah’s 14-step ho’oponopono-process. He was instructed by Morrnah Simeona and had to perform the ho’oponopono-process at least twice a day in Hawaii State Hospital. Never was a mantra mentioned. Dr. Hew Len was commissioned by Morrnah Simeona to carry out this experiment.

Michael Micklei reports, that every day Dr. Hew Len walked through the hospital and he looked carefully to the patients, the doctors, his feelings. He taped this. Then he practiced the Morrnah’s 14-step ho’oponopono in Hawaii State Hospital in this context. Dr. Hew Len never studied only the files of the patients.

The behavior of the patients changed so much that they could be discharged from the hospital. Morrnah Simeona initiated this experiment to substantiate the effectiveness of their 14-step ho’oponopono process. It was a success. (A detailed report by Michael Micklei: http://www.pacificaseminars.de/hawaii-state-hospital.htm)

Dr. Hew Len is said to has in the seminars at that time spoke only of the healing of his patients through the 14-step ho’oponopono of Morrnah Simeona. Dr. Hew Len had back then never told about a mantra, never about 100% responsibility and never about a zero state. In addition, Morrnah Simeona had never taught mantras, never taught 100% responsibility and she never taught about a „zero state“. She refused mantras. After Morrnah Simeonas death, the ways of Dr. Hew Len and Michael Micklei gone away from each other.

Was Dr. Hew Len appointed by Morrnah Simeona as the official successor?

Pacifica Seminars in Germany is headed today by Michael Micklei and his wife Yvette Mauri. They still have the original documents by Morrnah Simeona today.

According to Pacifica Seminars, Dr. Hew Len is said to was not chosen by Morrnah Simeona as her official successor. John Min was the vice president of the Foundation of „I“ and therefore the official successor to Morrnah Simeona. Dr. Hew Len was her administrator. He accompanied Morrnah Simeona later also on her travels. Dr. Hew Len is sayd to had after Morrnahs death in 1992, circumvented the statutes of the foundation and had changed the foundation’s „principals“ and demanded resignation from all members of the foundation. The people who worked for the foundation had to resign in writing and had to return their teaching materials. Then Dr. Hew Len is said to has become the successor in 1992.

Who invented the mantra „I’m sorry, please forgive me, i love you, thank you“?

Dr. Hew Len and Michael Micklei was trained with the same textbooks by Morrnah Simeona. According to Pacifica Seminars in Germany, Dr. Hew Len spreads things today that contradict the teachings of Morrnah Simeona in essential points and this things of Dr. Hew Len are unknown in the Hawaiian tradition.

Dr. Hew Len is today considered the inventor of the mantra „I’m sorry, please forgive me, i love you, thank you“. Dr. Hew Len is said to has invented the mantra after Morrnah Simeona’s death 1992. According to Pacifica Seminars, the mantra to have appeared publicly for the first time in the late 1990s.

On the Internet there are reports and mailing lists from the year 1996, in which this mantra is already mentioned.

At this point I would like to quote a comment from Michael Micklei:

quote

“ …
Dr. Len never healed in the mentioned hospital by only saying over and over „I love you“ and „Thank you“ to the „I“, Morrnahs word for the Source, for Divinity. Instead he used Morrnahs 12 (or 14) step process only, twice or three times a day. Every day he walked through the hospital he looked carefully to the patients, the doctors, his feelings. He taped this. And asked Divinity to heal his karmic bondages with these persons and matters. A hard job for three years. Divinity accepted the plea and healed. 2 persons were not healed, as there were no karmic bondages with Dr. Len.

Morrnah gave him this kind of order to do so (and at that time he worked really for the good to help Morrnah for her special spiritual job) and in classes, we both attended between Nov. 86 and later, Dr. Len was always telling in detail at the beginning that he was doing exactly this, nothing else. NO mantra was mentioned, never. At that time, Dr. Len was a student of Morrnah like me, so why and how could he use a quite different way in the hospital – and at the weekend in classes he said the opposite? Morrnah was also complex clairvoyant, she could see and hear everything.
…“

Mantras are not ho’oponopono

Just like the traditional ho’oponopono process of the ancient hawaiians is Morrnah’s 14-step ho’oponopono officially recognized in Hawaii as well. Both types of ho’oponopono follow the binding definition of ho’oponopono, which was established by the Hawaiian scholar Mary Kawena Pukui:

„Spiritual cleansing“ in the context of „a family conference where interpersonal relationships are restored through prayer, debate, confession of guilt, remorse and mutual forgiveness“ http://wehewehe.org/

The mantra „I’m sorry, please forgive me, I love you, thank you“ is not hawaiian, not ho’oponopono, not is it recognized in Hawaii. The effectiveness of this mantra is not proven. Problems can not be solved by a mantra with 4 pharses. That’s impossible. Detailed information can be found on the Pacifica Seminars website (http://www.pacificaseminars.de/hooponopono-irrtuemer.htm. The website is in german language only, please use Google translator to translate it to your language.)

Dr. Hew Len use the story of Hawaii State Hospital and the healing of his patients to substantiate the effectives of his mantra. Morrnah’s ho’oponopono goes into the background. It is even forgotten today by the people. Of all the other ho’oponopono-processes, which are developed by Morrnah, is no longer spoken today.

At this point I would like to quote a comment from Michael Micklei:

quote:

„…All so called tools of Dr. Len (except 2 or 3) were developped by Dr. Len after 1992, which are only temporarily harmonizing or calming down – NOT cleansing, NOT being any ho’oponopono, as they are not mutual. They are (powerful) magic tools. They are not bad in itsself, but they block people to learn authentic ho’oponoponos – traditional ones or the one of Morrnah. People like those easy magic ways, they really think to heal karmic stuff of hundreds and more reincarnations by 11 words.

It is clearly the good part of Joe Vitale’s job to spread the name of ho’oponopono from the time of „Zero limits“ across the world – but the illusion is inclusive: people know the name, but did not hear about the real content of ho’oponopono or even forget it…“

Hooponopono-processes, which are developed by Morrnah Simeona

As already mentioned, Pacifica Seminars in Germany have all original documents today, which was written by Morrnah Simeona. Morrnah Simeona wrote three textbooks Self-Identity through Hoʻoponopono, Basic 1, Basic 2 and Basic 3. She developed various ho’oponopono-processes. Pacifica Seminars teach all original ho’oponopono-processes today, which was developed by Morrnah Simeona (and only by Morrnah). Whether these ho’oponopono-processes are teach by the Foundation of „I“ today is unknown.

Some of this processes take only a few minutes to complete. These ho’oponopono-processes can be learned, if the 14-step hooponopono-process of Basic 1 has been practiced for some time. They are unique forms of ho’oponopono. A list of Morrnah’s further ho’oponopono processes:

  • ho’oponopono brief form (a 5-step ho’oponopono-process)
  • A supplementary ho’oponopono
  • various Mahikis
  • The pillar of peace of I (Note: „The pillar of peace of I“ is a protective tool only. Not a ho’oponopono.)
  • The “Connected” ho’oponopono (a special 14-step ho’oponopono-process to restore the inner family. This is a very special process to return the soul into the body. (For example: after an accident, a extremle shock experience, ….))
  • Various gymnastics exercises to restore body balance
  • and several more…

All ho’oponopono-processes in textbooks, which was written by Pacifica Seminars Germany, and which are taught in seminars by Pacifica Seminars in Germany were developed by Morrnah Simeona. These processes are not mantras. Morrnah Simeona never taught mantras. All ho’oponopono-processes, which are developed by Morrnah Simeona, are real ho’oponoponos. They are recognized in Hawaii.

Dr. Hew Len leitet heute die von Morrnah Simeona gegründete Foundation of „I“.
